Dear group,

What are the main advantages of 3B2 typesetting over traditional typesetting, e.g. LaTeX?

Thanks in advance.

Not many, IMHO, except that 3B2 (now Arbortext Advanced Print Publisher) had slightly fewer quirks in its command language (it wouldn't gag on unheralded "special" characters). Its much-touted "XML compliance" left a lot to be desired, and seemed to have been based largely on its use of pointy brackets as delimiters. Corporate users tend to count paid-for support as an advantage over community support. But I haven't used it since Arbortext took over, so much may have changed.

Hello,

3B2 doesn't change in its framework and architechure over the years! But it is constantly improving its performance and adding its capabilities to automate typesetting.

3B2 is not only a publishing software, but also a programming language as like TeX. TeX is a compiler but 3B2 doesnt require.

3B2 or as u call APP, is a very high profile automated solutions development evironment, as I interested to define it like that. It is built-in perl support and xml parser are the added advantages. Also it supports Tex/LaTex equations also upto a level. So I hope this helps you to get an overview on 3B2.

cheers

Hi

3B2 is a highly customisable automated publishing engine and comes in scalable black box or desktop wisiwig versions. Its primary strength is automated composition of structured or unstructured data formats in a chevron delimited format such as XML/SGML.

3B2 supports and complies with most of the main industry and ISO standards:

* XML, SGML, HTML, CALS and Bespoke mark-ups
* XSLT, XPATH, XSL-FO, XINCLUDE, XPOINTER
* TeX, LaTeX, MathML
* PDF, Post Script, Edgar 1 & 2
* TT, OT fonts and Unicode
* Scripting & Perl
* JPG, GIF, EPS, SVG, CGM, PNG
* Full Unicode support
* Multiple language support including: Arabic, Asian and CJK

hope this helps
Chris
